Photography Drones

DreamQii is beginning to offer its latest gadget, the PlexiDrone. The drone's founder, Klever Freire - formerly of Bombardier Aerospace - emphasizes that this is "not designed to be a toy." Instead, it's supposed to push the realms of photography even further: into the air.
The way people have approached photography is an ever-shifting phenomenon, from Instagram to GoPro cameras to, now, aerial photography, Freire hopes.

The PlexiDrone is a simple quadcopter drone with two pieces of landing gear and a slot to hold a GoPro camera (its preferred camera type) or other lightweight cameras/camcorders. Prototypes are built on industrial 3D printers within DreamQii's 800-square-foot office. Some of PlexiDrone's features include apps that can monitor your flight hours and direct the camera position, as well as voice AI, reminding you of warnings/cautions like "your GPS is turned off" or simple British chitchat. According to Freire, it has "a little bit of a dry wit and sometimes it has more of a sarcastic sense of humor."

While this is an exciting product, there are definitely some drawbacks. There are ethical concerns regarding peoples' privacies; for instance, one could fly this drone over a private residence and take sensitive photographs. The FAA is also trying to clear small, commercial unmanned vehicles and UAV aircrafts to fly above the current limit of 400 feet. Additionally, the price is steep; it will cost you $480-$1,200 for the first run of 1,000 drones, but when it truly this the market, that price could elevate to $800-$1,700. Overall, this is an exciting product that could give us a new way of capturing life's moments.

  1. While this is an exciting product, I don't really think that it is that innovative compared to other image/video capturing drones. I guess I just don't really see the novelty.originality in this project, but maybe that's just me.
